So i got a sj410 recently, and it doesnt seem to want to run right. I ran all the bad gas out, took the carb off and cleaned it up a little bit ( to the best of my knowledge of carbs), took the fuel pump off and sprayed it out with carb cleaner, Ran fuel cleaner and booster through the gas, and stil nothing. Problem is: It will start and runs on full choke, but when it warms up and starts to rev you cant turn the choke down or it will die. Unless you turn it off and it will only run by pumping the gas pedal, woulnt take a constant throttle. or it snuffs out. So not really sure what is happeneing dont know much about them or carbs at that matter to know. I also cleaned all the contacts on the cap as well. We ran a line right out of a gas tank with fresh gas through the fuel pump and didnt make a difference. So if someone could please help, was told to come here for good help on my little machine.
thanks

The carb has likely got shit in from the old gas depends how long its been sitting, you can try running it for a bit with fresh gas, if that doesn't help you will probably have to take the carb apart and clean it out with some brake clean and compressed air if you don't have access to carb cleaner. Just pay close attention on how you take it apart and do it over the dinning room table so you don't loose any small parts. Also make sure you have checked the basics like vacuum leaks, fuel filter and pump.

Well pump is working because it is pumping gas to the gas line and tried fresh gas and it didnt make a difference, Had already took it apart and cleaned the float bowl and some of the jets out. and still not working right.. Checked all the lines as welll.... Now i heard alot of these never like to idle but the problem is it woulnt take throttle at all constantly, you can sit there and pump the gas and keep it running but if you hold throttle down it woulnt stay running it bogs out.

Sounds to me like a lack of fuel. With out actually trying it, I would have to guess at; plugged jets, fuel pump not putting up enough pressure, or the most common problem, vuccum leak. eg: carb gaskets, intake gaskets, bad vac lines (most common). If it has a vaccum pot, try by-passing it. I was kinda having the same problem with Woody last year. And it's fuel-injected. Turned out it was drawing air right out of the tank. Wasn't getting enough to keep it running. then would get a vapour lock when hot. Don't know if this helps, but I've had carbed engines do the same thing. These have been the most common causes I've found.

Ya my buddy had the same problem on his samurai, so many little passages and holes in those things, ur probably into taking it apart completely. be carful not to rip the gaskets and what not when taking it apart becuase u will have a bitch of a time finding a carb kit, we couldnt find one for his samurai.
